Maintenance

General Department Information

The Maintenance Department of the Worcester Housing Authority maintains almost 3000 public housing apartments consisting of 24 developments throughout the City of Worcester.

Currently, we have over 90 maintenance employees consisting of:

Custodial Staff
Each community has the support of trained custodial staff. Each team member responds to resident requests for assistance, as well as maintaining all common areas and community grounds.

Trades Staff
The WHA has a number of skilled, licensed tradesmen including electricians, carpenters, plumbers, plasterers and painters to meet the needs of our families.

Supervisors
Even the most talented team needs strong leadership. The WHA is fortunate to have supervisors with the experience and knowledge needed to get the job done.

Step-Up Apprentices
More than twenty WHA residents work as apprentices in the landscape, custodian and apartment preparation programs. These hardworking men and women contribute to the overall positive condition of our communities.

Control Center Staff
Answering resident calls and providing important administrative support, the WHA Control Center staff is an important part of our team.

Contacting Maintenance

If you have a problem the best time to call us is right away. If you wait, the problem will only get worse and that makes it more difficult for us.

Always report a maintenance request by calling our Maintenance Control Center at 508-635-3200.
Your request will be entered into our computer system and we can track the progress.

Please do NOT report your maintenance issues directly to staff, even if you see them walking in the hallway. The staff person may forget or get busy working on something else and you could be waiting indefinitely.

Work Order Management

When you call maintenance please give us your name, address including apartment number and a description of the problem. Remember to ask for a work order confirmation number. This number will allow you to track your request for work if it is not done promptly.

Please keep in mind that:

    - Only emergency requests are addressed within 24 hours.
    - All other non-emergency calls will be answered in the order they are received and based on their severity. Most calls will take 1-5 days to be completed.
    - All calls are recorded to ensure friendly customer service.
    - There will be times, when we are experiencing a high volume of calls, that you may be put on hold. Please be patient.

Resident Maintenance Information

Please see below some additional information for residents regarding other maintenance functions.

Customer Service

To ensure the highest level of customer service we ask our residents to tell us how well we performed. Each month we randomly select 100 residents who have had recent maintenance work and send them a Customer Service Survey. If you get a survey, please take a few minutes to complete the survey. It will help us do a better job.
