Phase 2 Demolition at Lakeside Apartments will yield new affordable home ownership units.

WORCESTER, MA—Friday, January 16 marked the demolition of 13 units as part of Phase 2 in the redevelopment of Lakeside Apartments.

With a bone-chilling breeze blowing in off nearby Coes Pond, a bucket first swung at one of two Lakeside Apartment buildings on South Circuit Ave. shortly before 8 a.m. Friday, January 16. Its teeth tore into the brick façade, beginning a process that will ultimately yield to the start of construction on 10 brand new affordable home ownership units.

Construction, happening simultaneously with Phase 1, is expected to be completed in July 2027.

The units will allow qualified first-time buyers the opportunity to own their own home.

“This,” said WHA CEO Alex Corrales, “is yet another milestone in a project that will completely transform what affordable housing can and should be. There is certainly a bittersweet feeling as we watch a piece of our history come down at Lakeside, our oldest property, but we are laser-focused on the future and excited at the new, modern housing that is to come.”
