HISET Learning Center ESOL

WHA provides support for neighborhood youth residing in the Great Brook Valley and Curtis apartments by offering after-school homework assistance with the goal of improving academic performance through skill development and targeting individual student needs. The Learning Center provides small group and one-on-one tutoring for students who need support in their education. Additionally, interested students are selected to participate in the Musical Movement at the Joy of Music Program in Worcester once a week. Enrichment programs will be offered weekly, providing students with the opportunity to explore a variety of educational and skill-based activities to create a fun and engaging learning environment. The Learning Center will have a partnership with volunteer seniors at Lincoln Park Towers (LPT) to be paired with a child to read to and be read to once a month. Students are provided with a snack and dinner daily. The Learning Center is held at 35 & 45 Freedom Way, Monday through Thursday from 2:30pm to 5:00pm and is available for youth in grades 2-8. Transportation assistance is provided for Curtis Residents to and from the program. Interested residents can register online, in-person at the Resident Services office, or call 508-635-3306.

HISET

WHA in partnership with Quinsigamond Community College provides a HiSET class for adult residents seeking to obtain their high school certificate. Students receive assistance and instruction preparing them for the HISET (GED) test taking. All supplies and materials are covered. Students meet weekly throughout the academic year Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30am until 12:45p at 35 Great Brook Valley Avenue. Interested WHA residents can register with the Resident Services Office or call 508-635-3306.

ESOL

WHA in collaboration with Quinsigamond Community College and Worcester Public Schools are offers WHA residents Level 1 and Level 2 ESOL classes. The ESOL Level 1 is best suited for a beginner student who speaks and understands very limited English. This program provides the opportunity to learn basic speaking, reading and writing skills. This class is held at 180 Constitution from 9:30am to 12:30pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

The ESOL Level 2 is best suited for a student who has learned basic English communication in both written and verbal skill sets and want to engage in more in-depth learning opportunities. This class is held at 35 Freedom Way from 9:30 to 12:45 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

* Please Note Inclement Weather Policy for HISET & ESOL programming. We follow the Worcester Public School Cancellation. If school is cancelled or has a delay, no classes will be held on that day.
